Former Gombe state governor and political ally of the governor of Rivers state, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has joined Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign after leaving the G5 governors and the Integrity Group. The G5 governors established the Integrity Group as a political organization to include PDP supporters who are siding with them against Atiku and Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman.
Being a well-known member of the Wike Group, which has been at odds with the PDP’s national leadership and Atiku, the party’s presidential candidate, over Ayu’s continued tenure as the party’s national chairman. The group has withdrawn their support for the PDP Presidential candidate over Ayu’s refusal to step down. To the astonishment of many, Dankwambo finally rejoined Atiku and other party leaders for the PDP presidential campaign rally in Gombe state on Monday, November 21, according to Leadership. Right after welcoming party chieftains to the rally site from the Gombe Airport, the immediate-past governor of Gombe state was seen addressing party members and supporters. Senator Dino Melaye, who presided over the event, later declared that Dankwambo had given the Atiku/Okowa campaign in the northern state 20 buses.
